Dear Ms. Manuel:
This has reference to your above mentioned editorial in today’s Pune Mirror.
I have observed the framing of “work as a necessary evil, a transaction to be minimized” among GenYers at the present age of GenZ in many Western countries like Germany, Switzerland, and France. When I lived in Frankfurt in the early 2000s in a rented apartment, my landlord’s daughter was my next-door neighbor. When she got fired from her job, one would think that she’d start job hunting forthwith but, no, she took off to Spain the very next morning for a two months vacation, ostensibly to learn Spanish.
Going by that, I can’t help wondering if the GenZ behavior you have observed is more a function
of financial security than the character trait of a particular generation.
Given your experience with the generation, would you think that Indian GenZ has a family background that makes it more financially secure than Indian Boomers and GenXers at the same age?
In my limited exposure to Indian GenZ, I’d say YES but I thought of asking you since you might have a broader exposure to the generation than I do.
Thanks and Regards.
