Modern Technology in Public Transport Buses

In the past, I’ve written about the trials and tribulations I’ve faced while traveling in London public transport buses arising from erratic timings and lack of announcement of stops on the way (Click here to read “London Bus Travails”).

In my recent travels by public transport in buses elsewhere in the UK, I was happy to see the use of modern technology to substantially reduce many such difficulties.

In the Poole-Bournemouth area of Dorset, I saw electronic displays in buses announcing the next stop on the way, which made it easy to figure out when to get off the bus.

In Cardiff, Wales, bus stops are fitted with electronic displays announcing the timings of the next few buses.

What’s more, each bus stop has a code, and you can get an SMS message sent to your mobile phone giving details of the next four departures from that bus stop.

Hope London residents get to see such modern technology used in London buses soon! Somewhere in the above SMS picture, do we see a hint about whose support is required to make this happen?
