Dear Editor:

This has reference to the article entitled “Pune Police Raid Firearms In MP Village” appearing in Sunday Times dated 23 November 2025.

The sidebar of this article titled MADE IN USA TAG reminded me of an article in Sunday Times sometime in the late 1970s.

According to this article, USA near Bombay got away with its “Made by USA” label by arguing that (1) Its cheap knockoffs of electronics goods were indeed made by members of Ulhasnagar Sindhi Association, and (2) It was being truthful by not claiming “Made in USA” given that some of the items were made by USA members in Lower Parel, Andheri, Thane, etc.

Let’s see if Umrati Shikalgar Arms in Madhya Pradesh gets away with its “Made in USA” engraving for its cheap knockoffs of guns now.
