Good question, one that vexes me regularly.

The first name that comes to my mind after I read this question is a 24/7 wellness chain. I shop there regularly and I don’t recall the last time they handed me over the bill without my expressly asking for it.

OTOH, I see many stores that have a sign at checkout saying, if you don’t get the bill, the bill is on us. In other words, these stores encourage bills being given to consumers.

I really don’t know why some stores avoid giving bills but I can always speculate as to the reasons:

  1. Oversight
  2. Parallel accounting
  3. Staff stealing money
  4. Faux Go Green initiative
  5. Printer not working
  6. Store is very busy and staff doesn’t have time to prepare the bill.
