Do debit cards help to build credit to where I can be approved for a credit card or bitcoin credit card?*

Short Answer: Maybe.

Long Answer: A classical Debit Card does not provide Credit. Therefore, it cannot help in building credit history. But the fast-growing BNPL product has somewhat changed that. In an attempt to launch themselves into BNPL without spending too much money to create a separate BNPL product, some banks are tweaking their existing Debit Card product. Instead of debiting Debit Card spends to cardholder’s bank account immediately, as they would in the case of normal debit cards, banks are letting cardholders repay the spends in installments. Not all banks do this but, in the case of the ones that do, this is tantamount to “Credit on Debit Card”, which is a novel concept. If the bank reports repayments on such debit cards to credit bureaus, it’s possible that they may help customers build credit history and qualify for credit card.
