I never cease to be amazed by the average Indian’s behavior.
He will whine about India not producing a Google or Facebook.
But, when a Byjus becomes the world’s most valuable EdTech company, the same common man will not celebrate it. Instead he will rant against it on some imaginary misselling and lame ethical grounds.
Likewise, he will take immense pride that he can pay with digital payment even at a streetside teashop. But, instead of lauding the guy who made that happen, he will rant against Ashneer Grover for remarks he allegedly made to his banker and for alleged fraud within his private limited company, neither of which the common man’s business.
But this is not a new behavior: It’s just another manifestation of the good old frog in the well syndrome / sour grapes feeling that Indians are well known for: “If I don’t succeed, I won’t let anybody else succeed”.
