Well, you’re lucky empathy turned out this way for you. But, as I realized on an Ola ride recently, empathy has a strange way of turning around and biting you. The DriverĀ  behaved as though it was his first day on Ola. He didn’t know how to start the trip or otherwise activate the route map. He kept asking me for directions, not just at the last mile but from the very first mile. He broke traffic lights left right and center. He failed to pay Cantonment Toll. When caught, he said he didn’t know there was a Toll Booth and totally refused to pay the fine. He finally acquiesced only when the cantonment toll staff threatened to send a couple of jawans to get him arrested and throw him in a military prison. That was not all. At the end of the trip, he pressed some wrong button and insisted that I had to pay Cash, when I had clearly selected Credit Card as my payment option. When I complained to Ola, I was told all payments made to Driver by cash were outside the purview of Ola. Empathy should cut both ways. If it doesn’t, you’d be a sucker for showing empathy only from your side.
