Do people who work the front desk at a hotel commit fraud with credit card authorization forms which also have a picture of a driver’s license?*
Well, wait staff at restaurants and front desk staff at hotels are at least two categories of employees I can think of who do have access to enough credit card information that they can either make fraudulent purchases with them or sell them on the dark web and pocket $$.
But, if such unauthorized use of credit card were common, I’m guessing that we’d have heard about it.
Notwithstanding large scale hacks of credit card databases at TARGET and other leading retailers a few years ago, if I assume that the sky has not fallen, then I can jump to the conclusion that, just because they can does not mean that they will, and add this one as one more example in my blog post Just Because You Can Doesn’t Mean You Will – Part 1.
*: This is the original question I answered. I’m repeating it to help me make sense of my answer in case it’s moved to / merged with some other question that I didn’t answer.
