In India, you can withdraw cash by cheque only from a branch of the bank in which you have an account i.e. not from another bank’s branch.
Some banks allow you to withdraw cash by cheque from any of their branches anywhere in India, provided you have an account with that bank. Other banks restrict the facility to the “home branch” i.e. the branch of that bank in which your account is held.
If you don’t have any specific preference for withdrawing cash via cheques, you might want to consider withdrawing cash from ATM – it’s not only more convenient but offers greater flexibility. For one, ATMs are accessible 24*7*365. For another, in one of the most highly customer-centric banking regulations I’ve come across in any country, India’s central bank cum banking regulator RBI has mandated that you can withdraw cash from the ATMs of *any* bank (i.e. not just the bank in which you have your account), *anywhere* in India (i.e. not just home branch city), and without paying any fees (up to a certain number of ATM cash withdrawals per month).
