Gartner Publishes Our Article About Hootsuite

We’re happy to share with you that Gartner has accepted our recent article about Hootsuite for publication on its prestigious peerinsights review portal.

As many of you would be aware, Hootsuite lets you view all your social network feeds on a single dashboard and cross-post updates to different social networks from a single screen. Hootsuite currently supports Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram.

A quick summary of pros and cons of Hootsuite follows.


Hootsuite Works As Advertised – For Now

PROS

  1. Works as advertised in letting us manage multiple social network accounts from a single platform, including (a) “Crossposting” i.e. write once, edit once, and cross post to Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook automatically, and (b) Scheduled Posts (more on this in a bit).
  2. Although a web app, Hootsuite has the superior responsiveness of a Windows desktop app
  3. Extremely quick onboarding. In fact, for some of our customers, we spent more time creating Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook company accounts than on linking them to Hootsuite!
  4. Very responsive support via Twitter, DM, and Email – even for FREE plan
  5. We were forced to migrate to Hootsuite when our previous social media dashboard vendor was acquired by Hootsuite. But, ever since we started using Hootsuite several years ago, we’ve never looked for an alternative.

CONS

  1. Frequent changes in access policies of social networks are eroding the value of Hootsuite. First, Facebook banned robo posting to personal walls, so we now post manually on Facebook (i.e. not via Hootsuite). Then, Twitter banned robo posting of the same content to multiple Twitter accounts, so we manually distribute updates across those accounts. We’re anxious that, one day, further bans by social networks may diminish the need for Hootsuite altogether
  2. Feed gets stuck quite often due to patchy Internet connection or rate limits imposed by Twitter and Instagram. After hitting refresh, we need to manually go back to where we left off. It would be ideal if Hootsuite provided a checkpoint / restart feature that takes us back automatically to where we were cut off
  3. Frequent changes in UI are annoying. If Hoostsuite thinks they’re absolutely necessary, fair enough, but the company should mitigate loss of productivity and increase in training costs while implementing those inevitable changes.   4. Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram don’t support scheduling of posts. This is a major pain area for content marketing professionals and social media marketers who need to maintain a consistent posting frequency but don’t have the time or creative juice to bat out something at each one of those specified dates and times. By supporting scheduling of posts into the future, Hootsuite alleviates this pain. But scheduling is manual: We publish three posts a day, at 2PM, 6PM and 9PM (IST) and need to calendarize them manually. We wish Hootsuite had a automatic calendering feature whereby it pencils in placeholder posts at the predefined times. That way, all we’d need to do is to replace the placeholder text with the actual content. This will not only save us time but eliminate risk of mis-scheduling. We once forgot to tap the PM button on the AM / PM field of the scheduler screen. Lo and behold, all our posts got published in the wee hours of the day!
  5. Wish tweets in foreign languages (e.g. Dutch) are automatically translated by Hootsuite into English before they appear on my feed.

ADVICE TO PROSPECTIVE CUSTOMERS
