Readers might recall my enthusiasm for browser toolbars:\u00a0I’ve written several blog posts\u00a0(click here<\/strong><\/a>, here<\/a><\/strong> and here<\/a><\/strong>) extolling their virtues and predicting that they’d cause a revolution in the way that people use the Internet.<\/p>\n

All along, I’ve\u00a0thought of\u00a0toolbars as a convenient method of bringing websites to people’s\u00a0desktops.\u00a0Not even in my wildest dreams have I imagined that toolbars would one day be used to access applications located on people’s desktops.<\/p>\n

Well, I’ve been proven wrong.<\/p>\n

I recently came across a toolbar component called MS Office Shortcuts<\/strong>.\u00a0You can add it to your browser and invoke your local desktop applications like\u00a0Microsoft Office Word, Powerpoint, Outlook and Excel from your browser (You can download this component from here<\/a><\/strong>).\u00a0<\/p>\n

With MS Office Shortcuts,\u00a0browsers are no longer restricted to their original purpose of accessing websites located in the cloud.<\/p>\n

Talking about toolbars and desktops,\u00a0I’ve to make a mention of AddThis<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0– a\u00a0simple, free widget that allows readers to conveniently bookmark and share the web page they’re reading on Digg, Del.icio.us, Facebook, MySpace, StumbleUpon, Google Bookmarks,\u00a0and over 50 other popular bookmarking and social networking\u00a0services with a single mouse-click. Readers can also email and print any web page using AddThis.<\/p>\n
